How To Get The Best Price For Your DJ Equipment For Sale

If you have DJ equipment for sale, chances are you are looking to maximize the amount of money that you can get for your gear in order to make up for the original investment you made.

Sure, it's unlikely that you will be able to recover the full retail price that you paid when you bought the equipment new, but you might be surprised at how well musical gear holds its value. Let's take a look at some tips that can help you get top dollar for your equipment for sale.

Know Your Product

It's frustrating to browse a classified ad showing DJ equipment for sale that doesn't fully describe exactly what is being offered. When you post up your turntables, mixers, headphones and other items you should always make sure to provide a full account of its condition, how long you have owned it, the exact model number of the equipment and any upgrades or modifications that have been made to it. One or more photos can also be a huge benefit, as they can help visually establish the shape of your equipment for sale and avoid endless phone calls and emails about color and wear.

Know Your Market

Let's face it - you wouldn't go to a music store to buy baby food, and you wouldn't walk into a car dealership trying to buy a brand new mixer. When posting your DJ equipment for sale make sure that the newspaper or online classifieds service allows you to insert your ad in exactly the right category. That way you are guaranteed maximum exposure to other DJs who are actually on the hunt for used equipment - not just curious tire-kickers who want to waste your time.

Know Your Pricing

It's easy to make a mistake and advertise your DJ equipment for sale at a price that is either too low or too high for the current market. To get an idea of what you should be asking in terms price it can be helpful to view other classified ads both nationally and in your local area to determine what the average selling point is for each item that you are looking to list. If a piece of gear is rare in your neck of the woods, then you will probably be able to command a premium for it. If it's more common, you can try a higher price but you might end up having to hold on to the item longer than you had originally planned in order to get your desired figure.

It's also important to keep in mind that many used DJ equipment buyers view the asking price in an advertisement as merely the starting point for negotiations. If you need to get a certain amount of cash for each piece of gear, make sure you take bargaining into account and include a little wiggle room in your pricing.
