Check Before You Buy DJ Equipment Online!!

by Julie J
(New Jersey)

I recently tried to buy some equipment online, and nearly got stung. I had stumbled onto a merchant who sold gray market electronics - made in Japan with Japanese instructions. Here's what happened:

I searched online and selected the model I wanted. Then I searched for vendors. I chose the second lowest priced vendor. Their site had a 5 star rating and the item was in stock, so I though I was OK. After I placed the order and submitted my credit card info,I got an email telling me the item was back ordered for 30 days! I needed it yesterday!!

I tried to call and cancel the order, waited on hold 20 minutes, someone picked up, then put me back on hold for another 15 minutes. They convinced me to wait the 30 days. Needless to day the item was never in stock, I was able to cancel the order through my credit card company.

I Googled the name of the merchant and found tons of complaints about them. The 5 star rating was bogus; they set up themselves. Had I checked before I ordered I would have spared myself some trouble.

So the moral of the story is: before placing an order with a new online vendor, do a search of the vendor's name.

A final tip: put nonremovable ID labels on every piece of equipment you own or it may sprout legs and walk away!
