When a sound system is overdriven it distorts, making it harder to mix and losing a lot of the definition. It is important that you have a system that is overpowered so there is some headroom when the DJ goes crazy behind the decks and turns the system right up. Another consideration is the quality of the sound. Dance music comes mastered and produced and a sound system designed for bands is actually not very good. Bands want a loud rough sound while DJs want a crisp cleaner sound. If you are doing it all yourself it is a good idea to get a amplifier with a mixer built in. This will allow you to do a sound test before the gig and make sure the bass isn't too loud or too quiet. Combined with the controls on the DJ mixer this should allow you to do a few tweaks and have a good sound. To be honest with you I'm definitely not an expert on big sound systems but from my experience a little bit of tweaking can result in a much better sound on the dance floor and a more ecstatic crowd. Just stand where the people are going to be dancing and put a record on, turn the sound up and have a careful listen. Simple ehh : ) Check out the latest in here.
