It's all about personality!

I have read A LOT about being a DJ and lighting, but here is what I've learned: It is all about the DJ.
I have okay lighting, a good sound system, and mixing skills just strong enough to string songs together. What I do have is a very strong knowledge of music and music styles, a lot of tricks up my sleeve to keep the crowd interested, and a ton of energy to share.
I DJ for kids parties, adults, families, fund-raisers, weddings, and almost any event you can think of. Pick the right song at the right time and get people excited, and no one will really notice the lighting or mixing. In fact, most people don't really want a lot of “mixing" or "scratching"! They want the song they know and love.
So, my advice is learn all you can from others, but also learn from taking on jobs and know this: If the DJ caters to the audience, shows them positive energy, and pays attention to what song fits in at what time, YOU WILL BE A GOOD DJ!!!!
DJing is about performing…remember to be a performer!
If you are more reserved, stay behind the table in a club or rave. If you are extroverted, do school dances, weddings, and house parties.
