Novice DJ

by Al
(Hamilton, NJ, USA)

I'm 80 Years Old. When I retired 17 years ago, I went to a Senior Center. The DJ was 80 years old, played tapes and it looked like everyone had a good time. For $2 with coffee and cake, BYOB it was well worth it.

I then moved to a condo and the dances they had were mixed. Some with Professional DJ's and some with the in house DJ, who once was a musician. I wasn't too crazy about his music selection but everyone had a good time.

For the past year I have been providing the music for line dancing with a boom box and everyone has been having a good time.

We stopped having a monthly dance as the amount of people couldn't support a Professional DJ. So, in January 2008, I volunteered to run a dance, free of charge. I have a music library of over 5000 Songs of every variety on iTunes and CD's.

What I would like to do is have some basic inexpensive equipment costing about $200 total that I could use my CD's on and still sound somewhat professional. It really doesn't matter how professional I sound as long as the dance is free.

Do you have any suggestions?

Al Virgo

Some Gemini's might be a good choice
by: Anonymous

Don't know when this was posted, but if you're still here then I would recommend looking at some second hand Gemini cd players.
This brand is renown for its good ratio quality/price, meaning you'll get more than what you need for a relatively good price (check on ebay ;-)
