Pioneers are all right...

by Anfernee Rockwell
(Canada)

Being a Dj for over 15 years and also being a sound tech, I believe the mixers with the BEST sound quality are the Ranes. The Pioneers have some cool effects and what not but their sound quality is not so good especially when bangin' your line level and master into the reds.....

To the new Dj's out there and you ol' bone heads that just can't get it through your def ears....RED IS BAD!!!!

I tried a DJM1000 vs a laptop (lenovo V200) built-in audio card and these two sounded the same, means - poorly. All lower Pioneer models I've tried so far were even worse, what translates into harsh, cold sound of early digital players they made. Having said this - they do not sound as bad as this plus Serato (v.1) system used as sound source and the DJs I made comparisons with - were completely astounded. We had to make special Loudspeaker Management Processor (Xilica XP4800) settings to accomodate for a sound flattening introduced by serato. The whole story brings one conclusion - you'll have to listen to both the mixer and the sound source and to make choice by yrself. All of these claimed-to-have-hi-end-sound mixers have to be checked by your pair of ears.
