Being A Wedding DJ Isn't Half Bad

Hey, you didn't want to be a wedding DJ, but you can't always work in a club, with hot chicks and free drinks. Sometimes you want extra cash, so you DJ a wedding. It's a different crowd than your normal club or house party. How can you do a show that makes everyone happy?

When you were younger and dreamed about being a DJ, you probably thought that you were going to work a bunch of hot parties and hip clubs. Unfortunately or not, being a DJ involves being a wedding DJ too, as there is much more to the DJ life than the club gigs. If you play your cards right you could have a lot of fun at a wedding, and being a wedding DJ is a great way to make some extra cash and get a job done with in one day. Hey, why not be the wedding entertainment in the afternoon, then work a club at night? Sure you might have to dress like a goon and play some music you haven't heard since you were a kid at grandma's house but it pays, doesn't it?



Looking Like a Wedding DJ

One of the worst parts about having to DJ for a wedding is that you can't wear your hip club clothes that you would probably normally be wearing at any other gig. The difference between the club scene gigs and these gigs is that this is somebody's special day, so don't ruin it by not dressing the part. If you don't dress the part you are going to dissatisfy your clients and that is one of the big NO-NOs in the DJ industry. If you were going to your sister's wedding you would dress nicely, right? Give that bride and groom the same respect. Who knows, you might even enjoy dressing up a little bit. It is a great boost for self esteem and may even improve your show! 




Get Your Music Together

Depending on the type of wedding you are DJing for, you may have to get some new tunes to play for the bride and groom. It sometimes helps if you contact the wedding planner or whoever hired you and find out what type of music you should be looking for. The bride and groom may very well be fine with what you have in your collection already, but it is best to always make sure.

Remember, wedding DJs are entertainers - it's all about your clients!

It is an uncomfortable position for a DJ to be put in when they requested a song and you don't have it. Prevent that from happening to you and do your research; expand your musical horizons in the process! Your musical collection will thank you in the end. If you work another wedding, you'll already have the song in your play list!

Get Up the Grit

Okay, if you have never been a wedding DJ before here is a fair warning: these events can be really boring. After all, it isn't your wedding and chances are that by the end of the night you are going to be more than ready to go. But people everywhere love to have fun and have a good time at a wedding, and if you try to mimic their joy you may end up feeling a twinge of happiness yourself. Be happy that you could be such a big part of their memorable event!
